Staff and fellow board members are deeply saddened to announce the passing of longtime board member Richard Gerald Foy.  Known as Rick by friends and family, he provided direction and support for the work of Upper Midwest American Indian Center Staff in serving American Indian Families.  

We have included his obituary as well as information regarding visitation and funeral arrangements below:

Richard Gerald Foy, age 69 of Fridley, Minnesota Journeyed to the Spirit World on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Abott – Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born of June 17, 1954 in Saint Paul, Minnesota the son of Melford Mennis and Marjorie Foy. He grew up in South Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He graduated from Vocational School and joined the service honorably serving his country in the United States Navy.

He was joined in marriage in 1981 to Betty Thompson. Their marriage was blessed six children. Richard then rejoined the Navy.

Richard worked as a roofer until 2009, he worked hard to support his family, making sure that his kids had what they needed and wanted. He worked in security at the White Earth Recovery Center and the Tribal Government Center. He was an avid Vikings Fan, enjoyed Pow-wows, fishing, going to the casino and foster care.

He always made it to the kid's games. He encouraged them all to play sports. He loved to spend time with his family, was always joking and teasing around. Richard was a good friend to everyone and would help everyone the best he could.

Richard is survived by his wife: Betty Foy; sons: Christopher Thompson, Russell Foy, Jeremy Foy and Ricky Foy Jr .; daughters: Evelyn Foy and Stephanie Foy; grandchildren: Christopher Thompson Jr., Christian Thompson, Ashley Foy, Brendan Thompson, Allena Foy, Ian Foy, Marissa Foy, Jermya Foy, Zoe Foy, Layla Foy and Rocket Foy; great-grandchildren: Kai'moura Stevens and Jasyah Mize Jr .; special grandchildren: Debbie Buckanaga, Jayden Day and Asen Beaulieu.

Preceded in death by Marjorie, John and Clayton

An all-night visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 beginning at 6:00 P.M at The Upper Midwest American Indian Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at The Upper Midwest American Indian Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Richard's Loving Family and Friends.

Casket Bearers will be Francisco Jimenez, Javier Jimenez, Ian Foy, Delano Chaparro, Christopher Dion and Leland Thompson.

Interment with Military Honor will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
